MT. MANASLU EXPEDITION 8163M Overview

Mt. Manaslu Mountaineering Expedition with Brown Bear Trails, the professional

and expert adventure company of Nepal. Presents an exclusive climb to the

world’s 8th highest peak Mt. Manaslu guides you to the top 8,163 m / 26,781

feet.

Mt. Manaslu the name comes from the ancient Sanskrit word ‘Manas the mind or

soul of a god and almighty spirits’. Located around Nepal’s Far North Mid-West

Himalayas within the district of Gorkha, a mere distance from Annapurna and

Ganesh Himal.

The native of Upper Manaslu calls ‘Kutang’ for Mt. Manaslu, which means a

flourishing land for yielding high-altitude crops. As well a great place for raising

and breeding livestock like yaks and other cattle.

Mt. Manaslu was first summited in 1956 by the Japanese Expedition team of T.

Imamaishi, K. Kato, and M. Higeta. Supported by Nepali guide Gyalzen Norbu

Sherpa, since then the area remains closed to outside visitors.

Then the region was opened inviting wide-world travelers and mountaineers to

experience its beautiful treasures of natural scenery. Including its amazing

impressive age-old cultures of bygone days similar to its Tibetan predecessors

across the border.

Mt. Manaslu, and the higher valley at present drawing more visitors since it was

opened in 1992 onwards. Although remains a restricted area, where normal

trekkers require special permits, not for mountaineers for Mt. Manaslu

Expedition.

For most outside people the mountain has been tagged as a dangerous mountain

to climb. But for Nepalese climbers and Brown Bear Trails, any mountains in the

world especially around the Himalayas are dangerous. It entirely depends upon

the right timing and good weather as per the best season chosen for the climb.

Where’s Mt. Manaslu, a straightforward climb with few technical sections to

encounter? The dangerous part of the climb is due to the chances of frequent

avalanches that occur sometimes, even in the best seasons.

The climb grading is a full-fledged mountaineering expedition of more than 5

weeks duration with treks and climbs. The climb leads from Intermediate to

Advanced Mountaineering skill and experience required, setting a maximum of 4

high camps.

The climbers need to walk to the base camp, after an exciting drive to Machha-

Khola around low warm farm areas. The trail follows the raging Buri-Gandaki River

right up to its glacial source at Mt. Manaslu base camp. Located above 4,400 m /

14, 435 feet high after walking from the last village and human settlement of

Sama-Gaon.

Before reaching the Manaslu base camp have time for acclimatization at Sama-

Gaon at 3,530 m/ 11, 582 feet. As well as to explore and experience the local

colorful culture of Buddhism facing spectacular views of Mt. Manaslu.

The walk from Sama-Gaon leads through a beautiful glacial lake called Birendra

Tal with lovely pine wood surrounding it. A slow gradual climb to Base Camp, and

for full preparation, our staff and camping crews have set up the camp.

Brown Bear Trails reserves a maximum of 15 days for the climb to the summit of

Mt. Manaslu. Includes return journey back to base camp for packing and clearing

up the camp within these 15 days.

The expedition leader and lead guide will brief about the safety measures and

some technical difficulties to tackle. During two weeks or more practice climbing,

using you’re climbing equipment, and ferry the load to advance high camps.

Dates are fixed according to weather permitting for the final bid for the summit,

and for safe descent to base camp.

After a heroic climb and success reaching on top of the world’s 8th highest peaks;

return journey on the same route to Machha-Khola. For an interesting drive to

Kathmandu, after an overwhelming adventurous victory and experience on Mt.

Manaslu Mountaineering Expedition.

The climbing period on the Manaslu Expedition spans three weeks, where you’ll acclimatize, train, and attempt to summit. The team’s focus during these days is on building physical endurance, adjusting to the high-altitude environment, and preparing for summit attempts.

At the start, your team will spend a few days at various base camps and advanced camps to adjust to the altitude. Acclimatization is essential to avoid altitude sickness and increase your chances of a successful summit. During this time, you’ll carry out training on ice and rock climbing techniques, utilizing the surrounding terrain to improve your skills.

The team will also assess weather conditions daily. The unpredictable nature of the weather on Manaslu makes timing critical; your guides and Sherpas will monitor conditions closely. When the weather permits and the team feels prepared, you’ll make summit attempts, typically in stages, moving from Camp I to Camp IV, and finally to the summit.

Throughout this phase, there’s a constant balance of risk and reward. Summiting Manaslu requires patience, resilience, and teamwork. Every day is a test of endurance, and climbers must be prepared for challenges such as low oxygen levels, freezing temperatures, and intense physical demands.

Everest Adventures Nepal will provide expert guidance and ensure your safety, with experienced Sherpas accompanying the team every step of the way.
