Enjoy the classic climb joining Brown Bear Trails to Mt. Nanga Parbat, the world’s 9th highest peak. An unforgettable adventure of a lifetime experience, exploring around off-the-beaten tracks of Pakistan’s Karakoram Mountain ranges.

Mt. Nanga Parbat towers high at 8,126 m/26,660 ft. Above the scenic valley of Diamer District around Gilgit-Baltistan. The country has scenic landscapes; In the early days, it was known for its strategic point of the Silk Route.

Mt. Nanga Parbat is also locally known as Diamer, located amidst the great Karakorum Mountain ranges. The name “Kurra-Forum” comes from the Turkish language, meaning ‘Black Rock’. Mt. Nanga Parbat translates as the Naked Mountain in Urdu and Hindi languages. The Karakoram range extends to Hindu Kush towards the west and the Pamir’s northwest. Includes the Kunlun Mountains in the Northwest and the Himalayas in the east towards India, Nepal, and Tibet-China. 

Mount Nanga Parbat Expeditions starts from Islamabad, heading north towards Gilgit and Baltistan remote mountain wilderness. To reach the beautiful scenic region of Karakoram Mountain, where Nanga Parbat is located.

An interesting and exciting journey to Mt. Nanga Parbat base camp, with exciting drives and adventurous, scenic trekking. The walk follows through isolated farm villages untouched by the outside world and modern civilization.

At the base camp, preparation and getting busy for the summit bid of the most technical challenging Mt. Nanga Parbat. 

THE TRAIL TO BASE CAMP & HISTORY OF MT. NANGA PARBAT:

On arrival at Islamabad the present capital of Pakistan, after Karachi, after loading all the expedition gear on Lorries. Drive in the comfort of a 4WD or similar land cruiser, heading north beyond Islamabad city suburbs. 

The drive to Chilas covers a distance of 480 Km/ 299 miles, and it takes about 10 10-hour drive to Chilas country town. Located at an altitude of 1,265m / 4,150 ft., the air gets much cooler with fresh air to breathe. From Chilas, it is a short drive to Halale, on the mountain trail to Mt. Nanga Parbat base camp.

A lovely scenic trek to Kachal around sheer mountain wilderness, the route leads across rivers and valleys. It has grand views of the Karakoram Rocky Mountains, the majestic Nanga Parbat. After a few overnights in tented camps, to reach our destination at Nanga Parbat Base Camp. Right beneath the towering face of Mt. Nanga Parbat with adjoining snow-capped peaks.  

FINAL PREPARATION FOR ASCENT OF MOUNT NANGA PARBHAT:

Mt. Nanga Parbat and Diamer areas, coordinates 35°14′15″N and 74°35′21″E/35.23750°N 74.58917°E. The best accessible route to the summit is
from the Western Diamer, as climbed and pioneered by early mountaineers. 

Located about 27 km/ 17 miles southwest of Astor and Karakoram, around Pakistani sides of the Kashmir region.

Mt. Nanga Parbat’s first ascent was on 3rd July 1953 by the Austrian Expeditions.
Since then, the mountain has often been climbed by a few groups of mountaineers in the best time of the year.

Brown Beat Trail reserved 41 days for the ascent of Mt. Nanga Parbat summit. Understanding the nature of the technical effort needed for a safe and successful climb to top of the world’s 9th highest peak. 

Nanga Parbat Base Camp is at 4,100 m/13,451 feet, and to reach the summit requires four high Camps. Camp-I at 4,600 m/15,092 ft. Camp II is at 5,900 m/ 19,357 feet. Includes Camp-III at 6,750 m/22,146 feet and the last final Camp-IV at 7,200 m/ 23,622 ft. 

Camp IV, located at 926 m/3,038 ft. beneath the summit of Mt. Nanga Parbat.
After setting up the camps, make routes with fixed ropes on the necessary technical section of the climbing. Then, with rest for a few days at Base Camp, to regain strength and energy. The leader and head guide will decide on the final bid to the summit, depending upon the weather.On choosing the day for the ascent, head slowly towards the respective camps.
At Camps III and IV, climbers check their health condition and the right climbing tools. As the weather permits, start the climb with the big final push to the top of Mt. Nanga Parbat Summit. After resting and feeling on top, spirits enjoy the spectacular panorama of the dramatic Karakoram Mountain ranges.

Outline Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrive in Islamabad 666 m/ 2,185 ft. Transfer to a Hotel.

Day 02: Rest and preparation at Islamabad. 

Day 03: Drive to Chilas (480 Km -10 Hours’ drive). 1,265m / 4,150ft.)

Day 04: Rest day at Chilas for final preparation. 

Day 05: Drive to Halale, trek to Kachal 3,400 m.- 04 hours with drive and walks.

Day 06: Trek to Nanga Parbat BC (Diamer BC- 4,100m)-05 hrs.

Day 07-47: (41 days) Climbing Period.

Day 48: Trek back to Demario, 3,850 m.- 06 hrs.

Day 49: Trek to Halale and drive back to Chilas. -04 hrs.
Day 50: Drive back to Islamabad. Transfer to the Hotel. 8-9 hrs.
Day 51: At Islamabad to submit a report of the expeditions.
Day 52: Transfer to the airport for departure.

THE BEST SEASONS FOR MT. NANGA PARBAT EXPEDITIONS:

Pakistan, like other Asian countries, has four seasons: spring from March to May and summer with monsoon-wet months of June to August. This includes autumn/fall, which starts from September to November, and the winter cold months of December to February.

The best seasons for Mt. Nanga Parbat Mountaineering Expeditions are late
spring and early summer, from June to July. Including the autumn/fall, when days
are clear for views, treks, and climbs. Spring, from March to May, is a high season
and most favorable for pleasant scenic walks and climbs. Days are longer with
enough sunshine hours from early 6 a.m. till 6 p.m. It gets overcast with light
snowfall, sometimes above 3,000 meters high. It leads to enjoyable walks and
climbs, with eye-catching views of the Snowy Mountains throughout the climbing
adventure to Mt. Nanga Parbat.

During spring, cold mornings are below -5° to -10° Celsius and in shades, including the nighttime. Most days are fine and clear with strong sunshine and maximum temperatures of + 15° to + 20° Celsius.

The next best season for Mt. Nanga Parbat Mountaineering Expeditions and the trek is autumn/fall, from September to November. Most days are fine, with crystal clear blue skies that provide excellent views of the surrounding scenery and snow peaks. It gets dark by dusk from 5 p.m. onwards, and sunrise is at 6 a.m.
But cold mornings, late afternoons, and nights with minimum temperatures of minus 10° to -15° Celsius, altitude-wise. Daytime has a maximum of 15° to 20° Celsius, a perfect temperature for the climbing and views.

It can get cloudy with light snowfall sometimes during autumn, late October, and November. Above 3,000 meters, the daytime will be bright with strong UV lights in the spring, summer, and autumn. Good snow goggles, sunglasses, and sunblock creams are essential. Also, wear sun hats and long-sleeved shirts to avoid the strong UV sunlight.

DETAILED ITINERARY: 

Day 01: Arrive in Islamabad 666 m/ 2,185 ft. Transfer to the Hotel.

On arrival in Islamabad, Pakistan’s international airport, the group will be received

by our local counterpart agents, guides, and staff. Then, transfer to respective

hotels and meet all the group members at the hotel for briefing and introductions.

Day 02: Rest and preparation in Islamabad. 

At the Islamabad hotel, rest, prepare packing, and check all the gear and logistic

support for the expeditions. To obtain the permits and documents for
Mt. Nanga Parbat Mountaineering Expeditions as per the guideline itinerary.
Time permitting, enjoy exploring Islamabad City to experience the local cultures and customs.  

Day 02: Rest and preparation at Islamabad. 

At the Islamabad hotel, rest, pack, and check all the gear and logistic support for

the expeditions. Obtaining permits and documents for Nanga Parbat

Mountaineering Expeditions as per the days on the guideline itinerary.

The final briefing is held before departure towards Nanga Parbat base camp.
The group leader and senior guide will brief for the upcoming road conditions, norms, and rules to practice. When visiting towns and villages en route to the Nanga Parbat base camp. 

Day 03: Drive to Chilas 1,265 m (480 Kms)-10 Hours’ drive. 

Depart from the hotel at Islamabad, having early breakfast, an overland journey on 4WD Jeep or similar. The expeditions and camping gear with food loaded on a lorry/trucks. The drive follows north, towards a lovely countryside with scenic views of rolling green hills and valleys. After hours of exciting journey
reaching Chilas, the gateway Town. Check into the best available hotels for dinner and overnight halts.

Day 04: Rest day at Chilas for final preparation. 

Chilas is a moderate-sized town located in the Diamer District of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The area is known for its mild climate, ancient petroglyphs, and strategic position on the early Silk Route. At Chilas, another leisure day after a long overland journey from Islamabad.

Chilas is the headquarters and administered town of the Gilgit–Baltistan District of the disputed Kashmir region. It is located in the Diamer Division, around the
Indus River. Chilas and its scenic surroundings are famous for their stunning views of the landscapes and Karakoram Mountain ranges. Includes views of the majestic Nanga Parbat at Chilas and a visit to Saif-ul-Muluk Lake. The rest of the afternoon is spent checking the expedition gear and having time to explore the beautiful Fairy Meadows. A pristine area offers panoramic views of Nanga Parbat and Chilas and is also the hub for trekkers and mountaineers.

Day 05: Drive to Halale 3,400 m and trek to Kachal. 

Morning drive from Chilas Town to Halale at a distance of about 100 km/63 miles, on the Karakoram Highway. An exciting drive of a few hours, heading towards the end of a motorable dirt road at Halale. From here, the trek starts, at a distance of 10 km/ 6.5 miles to Kachal. The walks follow a moderate-level dirt trail to Kachal, and enjoy the first overnights in the tented camp. 

After a scenic hike from Halale with gorgeous views of the snow-capped peaks. Includes spectacular landscapes, views of ravines, canyons, streams with fresh mountain waters, and canyons. The camp is on a beautiful landscape terrain, enjoy the lunch and dinner, served by the camping cook, and staff. 

Day 06: Trek to Nanga Parbat BC (Diamer BC at 4,100m) -05 hrs. 

Enjoy the first overnight in a tented camp around the refreshing cool mountain air with the alluring scenery. After an early breakfast at Kachal, start the trek
heading towards our destination at Nanga Parbat Base Camp.
Walking for five hours or more to cover a distance of 16 to 18 km.
An exciting, scenic trek in the harmony of beautiful landscapes to reach Nanga Parbat or Diamer Base Camp. The camp is set beneath the majestic Nanga Parbat, overlooking fantastic views of the surrounding mountain scenery.

Day 07-47: (41 days) Climbing Period. 

Brown Bear Trails reserves 41 days, from the Base Camp to the Summit and back. At the base camp, rest to support acclimatization, and as well as sorting the gears for respective higher camps. The guides and expert climbers make the route accessible by fixing ropes where necessary.

After ferrying the load up to Camp IV, then taking rest at base camp, and wait for
the final weather forecast. As the day’s look promising, climb toward respective camps. Spend the night at the Camp-I or Advance and High Camp, situated near the top of the Diamer Glacier. Continue the adventure with an exciting and technical climb towards the last Camp IV. From Camp IV, a long and vigorous haul leads you on top of Nanga Parbat Summit. Nanga Parbat is also called Diamer or Deo Mir, which means ” big mountain in the Tibetan language.
It is bounded by the Karakoram Range and the mighty Indus River close to the Pakistan and India border. It is one of the most technically challenging peaks

to negotiate even for the expert and veteran mountaineers. 

After a strenuous climb to the top of the world’s 9th highest Mt. Nanga Parbat,
feeling high with victorious moments. Enjoy the glorious vista of the Karakoram Himal ranges that surround the top. From the summit, then descent on the same route to Camp-II, after completing the tough day. The clearing of the camps descends to the Base Camp for refreshing and relaxing moments.

Day 48: Trek back to Demario.

After an exciting and vigorous ascent, return on the same route to Camp II and

then to base camp. All members should be at the base camp before Day 45 or 46

to clear the camp and pack the equipment for the return journey. 

Day 49: Trek to Halale and drive back to Chilas. 

Following our travel schedule, start the trek back to Zangat after a scrumptious

breakfast. On arrival at Zangat, have lunch, then drive back to Chilas and rest for

the night. In the comfort of a nice hotel with grand distant views of Nanga Parbat

towards the far north.

Day 50: Drive back to Islamabad. Transfer to the Hotel. 

Start the long overland journey as early as possible, after breakfast at Chilas

Hotel. Board the four-wheel drives for an exciting and scenic journey to

Islamabad. Reaches Islamabad hotel by late afternoon or evening, on time for a

good dinner and overnight stops.

Day 51: At Islamabad to submit a report of the expeditions.
Enjoy the free day in Islamabad to relax. The leader and the Government Liaison Officer will submit the report of the climb to the concerned Pakistani department.  

Day 52: Transfer to the airport for departure.

Last day in the land of five world’s highest peaks, after a great adventure and mind-blowing experience. Our counterpart agent staff of Pakistan will transfer you to the airport on time for your international flight homeward bound. After a great experience and adventures around the Karakoram Mountain Ranges and climb of Mt. Nanga Parbat.

We have daily departures for this trip from March to May and from mid-September to mid-December. You can type in the number of passengers to book a reservation and select a date that is convenient for you. Due to group size, we never cancel a trip once you’ve made a reservation.
