Days are longer with enough sunshine hours from early 6 a.m. till 6 p.m. It gets overcast with light snowfall, sometimes above 3,000 meters high. It leads to enjoyable walks and climbs,
with eye-catching views of the Snowy Mountains throughout the climbing adventure to Mt. Pumori.
During spring, cold mornings are below -5° to -10° Celsius and in shades, including the nighttime. Most days are fine and clear with strong sunshine and maximum temperatures of + 15° to + 20° Celsius.
The next best season for Mt. Pumori Mountaineering Expeditions and trek is autumn/fall, from September to November. Most days are fine, with crystal clear blue skies for excellent views of the surrounding scenery and snow peaks. Gets dark soon by dusk from 5 p.m. onwards and sunrise by 6 a.m. Cold mornings, late afternoons, and nights with minimum temperatures of minus 10° to -15° Celsius, altitude-wise. Daytime has a maximum of 15° to 20° Celsius, a perfect temperature for the climbing and views.
It can get cloudy with light snowfall sometimes during autumn, late October, and November. Mountaineers can enjoy treks and climb Mt. Pumori.
During the winter, it gets freezing temperatures in the mornings, late afternoon, and nights. Most days are clear with bright sunshine, and there are fewer groups of trekkers and climbers to encounter during the low winter season.
The daytime can be bright with strong UV lights in the spring and autumn seasons. Good snow goggles, sunglasses, and sunblock creams are essential.
Also, wear sun hats and long-sleeved shirts to avoid the strong UV sunlight.

Mt. Pumori is located north of Khumbu and the famous Namche Bazaar, at
close distance of 8 km from Mt. Everest. Mt. Pumori, the name is related as a daughter of Mt. Everest from Sherpa and Tibetan language. The dome-shaped Mt. Pumori straddles the borders between Khumbu/Nepal and Rongbuk in Tibet-China.
Mt. Pumori due to its location on the far end of Khumbu. Trekkers and mountaineers can catch the views of Pumori en route Lobuche, Gorak Shep and Everest base camp. It is a highly technical peak to the summit for all mountaineers, it is purely a challenging mountain to dare.
The main climbing is done from the South-East Ridge route; one can also venture from the southwest. Both routes provide technical challenges from the start to the end to its high-notch summit.
From the summit of Mt. Pumori, jaw-dropping and startling sceneries to enjoy of

Mt. Pumori is a beautiful and majestic-looking dome-shaped peak, similar to the shape of a Yeti scalp. Mt. Pumori first ascent was in 1962 by the joint Swiss and German Expeditions. From then on, the mountain has drawn a few groups of mountaineers annually over the periods in the best seasons.
The most amazing in mountaineering history is that a native guide of Pangboche, Khumbu. The unique mountaineer late Sundari Sherpa reached the summit of
Pumori in just 18 hours from the base camp. As well the first Sherpa to climb
Mt. Everest five times around the mid 1990’s.
Mount Pumori (7,161m/23,494ft) is a challenging 7000m peak in the Himalayas.
It is located on the Nepal-Tibet border. A mere 8km, west of Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse Peaks, and close in front of rocky black ridge Kalapathar.
A famous and most popular viewpoint in all the Himalayas among trekkers and mountaineers.
In Sherpa, a Tibetan language, the name of Pumori is for a young female child.
The native believes Mt. Pumori is the daughter of the great mother Chomolungma or Mt. Everest.
Mt. Pumori is a challenging peak to climb, but the best logistic supports and expert guides makes the climb accessible. The walk follows from Lukla Town and Tenzing Hillary Airport, on the same main trail, as Everest base camp.
After an hour of good walking from Lobuche and Gorak Shep, the route diverts from the Everest base camp trail. Then, our real adventure begins from the base of the gigantic and stunning Mt. Pumori. The climb to the summit needs three high camps. Camp-I at 5,650 m, with Camp-II (6,580m).

Expedition dossier:
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels.
On arrival at Kathmandu, Nepal’s international airport, you will be greeted with a warm welcome by Brown Bear Trail staff and guides. Then, transfer to your hotel and join the other members of the Mt. Pumori Expedition. Our guide and group leader will brief the group regarding the trekking routes and technical skills required.
Day 02-03: At Kathmandu, preparation for Mt. Pumori Expeditions.
Two days in Kathmandu for necessary preparations, packing, and purchasing
the necessary equipment for the expeditions. On the last day in Kathmandu for the final briefing regarding the climb. Includes do’s and don’ts.
The expert climbing guide will provide more information and items required for the climb.
Interested people can join in city tours around Kathmandu at places of interest, as Kathmandu valley is steeped with world heritage sites of impressive historical and cultural monuments.
Day 04: Fly to Lukla 2,860 m and trek to Phakding 2,610 m-04 hrs.
After an early breakfast, Brown Bear Trail staff and guides will transfer the
group to Kathmandu domestic airport. After checking in with the respective
airlines, board the 15 to 18-seated aircraft.
Twin Otter, Dornier, or similar STOL aircraft can only fly to smaller airports with
short runways. Like the airstrip of Lukla Tenzing & Hillary Airport, the flight to
enchantment. During this short flight, enjoy the sweeping panorama
of the Himalayan peaks with Mt. Everest towards the northeast.
Then the plane lands at Lukla’s short runways, reaching the parking space on
landing at Tenzing & Hillary Airport. After getting organized with the baggage,
have time for a refreshing break. Then, follow the expert guide heading
through the market areas on the main streets of Lukla.
An enjoyable walk downhill for a short while with views of farm villages, as the
The walk leads through several villages. Then, reach Phakding for the first
overnight around the Khumbu area of Everest. A lodge with lovely rooms with
friendly hospitality to enjoy the night at Phakding by the Dudh Koshi River.
Day 05: Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m-06 hrs.
After a hearty breakfast, follow the guide on a pleasant walk.
After a short hour of good walks cross over a long bridge above Dudh Koshi River.
Then, a short climb leads to Monjo village to enter Sagarmatha National Park.
Sagarmatha is the name for Everest in Nepal, and the native Sherpa call as
Chomolungma is similar to Tibetan. In both languages, it means great Mother as
large as an ocean, from the park down to cross the same river.
(Sagarmatha National Park is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites).
The reaching at Jorsalle before Namche Bazaar, possible lunch stops and then walk on river bed amidst dense forest. A short climb to cross a high bridge, with a long, undulating uphill walk of a few hours to Namche Bazaar.
A large settlement, the size of a moderate town with colorful and well-built
houses serving as a lodge, and hotels. Enjoy a nice comfort in one of the best
lodge rooms, with a grand view of the Kwangde Himal range and Thamersarkhu
peaks.
Day 06: Rest day in Namche Bazaar for acclimatization with a short hike.
An ideal and perfect height for acclimatization at Namche Bazaar before heading
towards higher ground. Explore Namche Bazaar and its grand viewpoints above
the lodge for better acclimatization.
Possible short hiking around Namche Bazaar viewpoints as follows:
After breakfast, climb uphill towards the top ridge of the National Park
Headquarters’ high ridge, a place with an interesting museum.
Enjoy the grand vista of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse with beautiful
Mt. Ama Dablam, Khangtiaga, and Tharmasarku. Include the Kwangde Himal
range of peaks, and then visit the museum, which provides the best information
on the Sherpa cultures and history. Flora/fauna and mountaineering expeditions
history around Khumbu and Everest.
The other hike is the climb above Namche Bazaar to a small old airstrip
at Syangboche. Then, a slow, gradual up to Everest View Hotel, the first luxury
hotel around Khumbu and the Everest region.
Designated in the Guinness Book of World Records as the highest hotel in the
world at 3,962 m/ 13,000 feet. Located in serene surroundings, amidst a small
forest of pines and rhododendrons. Enjoy the glorious views of Mt. Everest,
Lhotse, Nuptse with Ama Dablam while having refreshments.
After the morning hike downhill to Namche Bazaar for lunch.
The rest of the day is at leisure, for browsing the exciting and interesting Namche
Bazaar. It is also famous for its weekly Saturday Market, hence the name tagged as
Namche Bazaar, due to the colorful, busy bazaar/ market held every
Saturday.
Day 07: Trek to Tengboche Monastery 3,867 m-05 hrs.
From Namche Bazaar, a morning walk follows a pleasant and gradual trail to
Tengboche. The walk follows with views of towering snow peaks with
downhill to Imjatse River at Phunki Tenga. A small settlement and a popular
lunch stop for trekkers before Tengboche and beyond.
After lunch, a few hours climb on winding ups through dense woods.
It is covered with tall rhododendrons, pines, oaks, and firs trees, then reaches
an open wide area at Tengboche. A beautiful location surrounded by the towering
snow-clad peaks amidst a beautiful forest with a colorful, majestic monastery.
After checking into a nice room and having afternoon refreshments, enjoy
a tour of the monastery enriched with ancient artifacts. As well as colorful
decorations of vivid religious arts and paintings inside the monastery interiors.
Tengboche Monastery is famous for a colorful religious festival called Mani
Rimdu. This event is held for three days during late October or the first week of
November, as per the Buddhist Lunar calendar.
Note: The guide might take you further down for an overnight stop.
After the tour of the monastery, around the serene environment with good lodge
accommodation at Deboche.
Day 08: Trek to Dingboche 4,410 m -05 hrs.
From Tengboche or Deboche, walk down to a river towards a bridge.
From here, the tall trees drop to short alpine shrubs and bushes, the
climb leads to gradual ups. Along with stunning views of Mt. Ama Dablam.
The last permanent village en route to Everest base camp, other places for
with overnight stops are temporary settlements.
After a short rest, the walk continues from Pangboche village with a short climb
towards Somare. A small settlement and a popular rest and lunch spot before
heading towards Dingboche or Pheriche. From here, enjoy the views of
Ama Dablam with an array of peaks. After lunch, a walk follows with gradual ups;
Noon time can be windy and cold. The walk continues with a short descent
to a stream, then climb for an hour to Dingboche.
A beautiful place, located at scenic Imjatse Valley, with tremendous views of
Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and Island Peak. On arrival at Dingboche, check into
the best lodge available for two nights.
Day 09: At Dingboche with rest day for acclimatization and short hike.
Enjoy another leisure and rest day for better acclimatization. Dingboche offers
a few good hiking spots, for grand mountain panorama.
The best options are to climb Nagkartshang, also called Nakarjung walk up to
5,510 m or 18,077 feet high. Adding 700 m up from the height of Dingboche.
a 2-3 hours climb above from the lodge heading north east, on reaching the top.
Fascinating views of the surrounding Snow-Mountain range with views of
the Mt. Makalu in the east.
After a scenic morning climb, with grand vista of the surrounding peaks, down to
Dingboche for lunch. Take a stroll around Dingboche and marvel at the beautiful
scenery.
Day 10: Trek to Lobuche 4,928 m -05 hrs.
After an enjoyable rest and overnights in Dingboche, the morning walks lead to
a short climb to a ridge. Lined with Buddhist prayer monuments, then on
pleasant trail with a slow winding ups to Thugla.
A small place with tea house, a popular refreshing stops for lunch en route
Lobuche. At Thugla, the trail of Pheriche and Dingboche joins, and the
melting point of Khumbu glacier to a torrential cold stream.
After lunch, a steep climb of less than an hour to the top of Thugla small pass.
From here, walk on a gradual path for an hour to Lobuche for an overnight in one
of the best lodges. Check into a nice room with views of Nuptse and Lobuche
Peak. Lobuche is well hidden from the gusty cold wind.
Day 11: Trek to Gorak Shep 5,180 m. Continue to Pumori base camp.
5,250 m/ 17,225 ft. -05 hrs.
From Lobuche towards Pumori Base Camp, after a good breakfast.
The walk follows a gradual trail, with a short climb to reach a moraine of
rocks and boulders. The trail follows above the Khumbu Glacier, with a short
downhill to Gorak Shep. A small settlement with few lodges, situated beneath
Mt. Pumori and Kalapathar scenic viewpoint ridge.
In the early days, Gorak Shep was the original base camp for Everest Expeditions,
as the glaciers moved and receded in the past decades. From the 1970s onwards,
the base camp shifted to its present location.
After a good rest at Gorak Shep, walk east on a winding path for an hour.
The route diverts from the Everest Base Camp trail, a short climb over rocky path towards Mt. Pumori base camp.
Enjoy the incredible scenery similar to Arctic landscapes, covered in a moraine of rocks, snow, ice, and glaciers. From here, real adventure starts, the exciting ascent to Mt. Pumori.
The base camp is established on moraine of rocky glaciated terrain, offering
stunning sunrise and sunset views. As it reflects over the giant surrounding
peaks, enjoy the afternoon and for several days, beneath the staggering
Mt. Pumori.
Day 12-26: (15 days) Ascent of Mount Pumori and withdrawal to Base Camp.
Brown Bear Trail provides 15 days for the adventurous climb to reach the
Mt. Pumori summit. During these days, all climbers will ferry the loads of climbing, camping, and food to higher camps.
Our Sherpa guides and high-altitude porters, including members, will carry the necessary gear to the respective camps. As well as fixing ropes on difficult technical sections. Make the route accessible and possible for the summit.
on the final day of the climb. Over 15 days, the climb leads you to the foot of the Pumori Glacier; from here, the real climbing starts.
With 15 days for the climb from Base Camp, the adventure follows towards some technical sections. Setting the higher camps and climbing ups and down.
The final climb for the summit bid is set by the group leader and head guide, according to weather conditions.
The Pumori Mountaineering Expedition to the top at 7,161m / 23,495 ft. requires a rotation. After setting the higher camps, this allows proper acclimatization and supports for the successful summit bid.
Start the climb after spending an overnight at respective Advance, Camp-I to III.
As the weather and the wind permit, start the adventure as early as possible, before the crack of dawn. A strenuous, long climb on a snowy ridge, then reaching across a few obstacles. The final push takes you to the top of Mt. Pumori Summit
Enjoy the breathtaking panorama of the surroundings’ close peaks with
Everest, and Lhotse at mere distances. Includes views of Lingtrin next to
Mt. Everest with Ama Dablam and peaks across the border in Tibet.
Day 27: All team members regroup at Base Camp.
After an adventurous climb down at Base Camp to check the health and physical condition of the members. As well as the guides and high-altitude porters and staff. All members should be at the base camp on Day 25 or 26.
For packing and bringing all the gears from the high camps, including the garbage.
Day 28: Cleaning the base camp and packing for the return journey.
Getting busy clearing the camps with packing the gear for porters to carry, and
as well as collect the garbage. Leave the area as pristine as it was before, and
then enjoy the last meals at Pumori Base Camp.
Day 29: Trek to Pheriche 4,240m – 05 hrs.
After clearing the camp, collect the garbage and hand it to the SPCC (Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee). This is completed with packing and loading on Yaks and Zhopkyo, as well carried by the porters. Then, leave the Pumori Base Camp and walk to Gorak Shep and Lobuche for a possible lunch stop.
From Lobuche, follow the same route downhill to Thugla. After a brief rest, the trail leads down to Pheriche Valley. The area is known for windy afternoon,
a pleasant walk of a few hours reached Pheriche. It is a lovely settlement with good lodges for overnight stops. HRA Post (Himalayan Rescue Association) is located near the lodges.
Day 30: Trek to Namche Bazaar via Tengboche – 07 hrs.
From Pheriche, grand views of Ama Dablam, Taboche and Cholatse peaks, morning walk down to a stream. Then climb to a small ridge top, walk downhill towards Somare and Pangboche Village. After a short rest, down to Imjatse River to cross a bridge, the climb starts for few hours to Tengboche, for possible lunch stop.
Leaving Tengboche, descend to Phunki Tenga after crossing the bridge and climb to Lobesa. Then, on an easy, gradual scenic trail to Namche Bazaar in the comfort of a nice and cozy lodge.
Day 31: Trek to Lukla-07 hrs.
On the last day of the adventure, enjoy the pleasant walk towards Dudh Koshi. Then, after crossing bridges towards Jorsalle with a short climb to Sagarmatha National Park post. A short walk to Monjo and then on a pleasant trail to Phakding for a possible lunch break. Leaving Phakding a few hours of good walking and an hour of climbing to Lukla. Arrive by late afternoon for the last overnight around Khumbu. Enjoy the dinner and celebrate with fellow members and staff, including the porters.
Day 32: Fly to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
An early breakfast to catch the flight back to Kathmandu from Lukla.
Sometimes, flights can get delayed due to unfavorable weather.
As the plane reaches Lukla’s Tenzing Hillary Airport parking lot, then get
on board the small aircraft. Enjoy the short scenic flight with views of Himalayan ranges. On arrival at Kathmandu domestic airport, a short drive takes you amidst the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu city. Then, transfer to your hotels and spend the rest of the day relaxing and enjoying individual activities.
Day 33-34: Free day in Kathmandu to submit the reports.
Reserved two days in Kathmandu in case of flight delays at Lukla due to weather conditions. On this free day, after getting busy sorting the climbing equipment, the leader and guide will submit the expedition reports to the concerned Nepal Government department. The rest of the day is free for leisure and to enjoy
a guided tour around Kathmandu city’s famous world heritage sites.
Day 35: International departure for homeward bound.
Mt. Pumori Expeditions concludes today, as time for your international flight
for homeward bound or to the next port of call. Transfer to the airport with a mesmerizing and exciting adventure, then bid farewell to Brown Bear Trail guides and staff.
